Background
North Middlesex Community Medical Centre, Parkhill & Ailsa Craig, serves a large area including Parkhill, Ailsa Craig, Nairn and the Townships of East Williams, McGillivray and West-Williams. Beyond the residents of North Middlesex, the centre also attracts patients from the neighbouring counties of North Lambton and South Huron.
We have been fortunate to have had a succession of long term, committed physicians practice in Ailsa Craig and Parkhill.
The original Parkhill centre is still located in the same medical facility that was built by Dr. William Scrimgeour, which housed his practice during his 50+ year medical career in Parkhill. Dr. Scrimgeour died in 2006, but his legacy lives on through the continued care provided at the Centre. We have recently expanded and our second medical centre is now open on Main Street in Ailsa Craig and accepting new patients.
NMCMC was formed by local physicians and a group of enthusiastic community members who recognized that health services in the area were at risk, due to physician retirement and relocation. The medical building purchase was made possible through funds from the municipality and donations from our community. This purchase allowed for the amalgamation of the existing practices of local family doctors, Dr. Andrew Whynot and Dr. William Thorpe.
The Municipality of North Middlesex was designated as a medically under serviced area in March of 2004. We currently have the population base to support a complement of 4 physicians at our Parkhill location and 1 physician at our Ailsa Craig location.
Retrofits to NMCMC have been on-going including an addition, doubling the size of the Parkhill centre in 2006 and adding our Ailsa Craig location in 2010. NMCMC is committed to providing a barrier-free environment for our patients, their families, staff and the community. Our front entrances are fully automated and the patient washrooms are wheelchair accessible. All of the large, fully equipped examination rooms have been recently updated.
The Centres host over 3000 active patient files. Our goal is to maintain a full complement of family physicians to fulfill the health care needs of our area.
